From Lab to Workshop: Developing High-Performance Wood Finishing Products

Hi everyone 😊
My name is Assaf Yossef Cohen, and before I tell you about oils, waxes, and wood finishes, I should tell you one important thing: I’m a biologist. I hold a PhD in biology—but I’ve also spent many years working with wood, building, creating, and finishing pieces with my own hands.

Over the years, I worked with countless wood finishing products. Some were good, some less so, but I was always searching for something very specific: finishes that truly protect wood. Not just from everyday wear, but from real-life challenges—chemical ones like Coca-Cola, turpentine, and other spills, and physical ones like hot pots placed directly on a tabletop.

At the same time, something else mattered deeply to me. I wanted to work with materials that were friendly—to me, to my health, and to the planet. I didn’t want harsh chemicals, lingering fumes, or products that felt wrong to use day after day.

Out of all the finishes I tested, only a few came close to meeting these standards. And even those had issues: long polymerization times, strong residual odors that could last for days or even weeks, and prices that made no sense for makers and professionals alike.

So I made a dramatic decision: I went back to the university lab.

During my MSc and PhD, I gained deep experience in analytical chemistry. I decided to use that knowledge for a bold goal—to discover a completely new polymer. One that would be safe, human- and eco-friendly, and at the same time provide exceptionally high durability for wood.

After extensive planning, testing, experimentation—and yes, a few failures along the way—we did it. We discovered a new polymer.

This polymer performed exactly as hoped: it created outstanding resistance to chemical and physical challenges, while maintaining a very low residual odor. From there, a new journey began—developing wood finishing products based on this innovative polymer.

It started with a Hard Wax Oil we named Ledicode, followed by a Hard Wax called Deylina, and a thin penetrating oil named Tenicule. Even after choosing packaging and graphics, development didn’t stop. We continued refining formulations and manufacturing protocols, pushing every detail toward perfection.

Today, Incrediwood products are used by makers and professionals around the world. And more than anything else, customer feedback tells the real story—of quality, performance, and materials made with deep care, science, and love for wood.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
